Dr. Shreenivas A. Desai
Dr. Shreenivas A. Desai is a distinguished
agricultural scientist and academician with vast expertise in Genetics and
Plant Breeding. He holds an M.Sc. (Ag) degree from G.B. Pant University of
Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, followed by a Ph.D. from the
prestigious Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. To
further enrich his research exposure, he pursued postdoctoral studies in Plant
Molecular Biology at Delhi University and at the University of California,
Davis, USA.
Currently, Dr. Desai serves as a Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding and Nodal Officer (ICAR) at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka. His leadership extends beyond academia, as he previously held the position of Registrar at the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPVFR&A), New Delhi, where he contributed significantly to policies safeguarding farmers’ rights and promoting plant variety protection in India.
With decades of academic, research, and administrative experience, Dr. Desai has played a pivotal role in strengthening agricultural education, plant breeding research, and international collaborations. His professional journey reflects a commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, developing improved crop varieties, and empowering farming communities through science-led innovations.
He continues to contribute actively to teaching, mentoring, and guiding future agricultural scientists, while also engaging in national and international initiatives under the aegis of ICAR and other global platforms.
