The building industry significantly
influences our environment, while also being a major contributor to energy
consumption, carbon emissions, and resource depletion. The urgency for
sustainable building approaches has intensified due to global challenges
including climate change, rising urbanization, and diminishing natural
resources.
This book, Green Building:
Sustainable Practices in Civil Engineering, provides a concise and pragmatic
overview of the principles and methodologies that characterize eco-friendly
construction. It examines critical domains such as energy and water efficiency,
carbon footprint mitigation, sustainable materials, waste management, and the
incorporation of intelligent and renewable technologies.
The material conforms to
international frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), and integrates Indian standards such as GRIHA and IGBC to
maintain regional pertinence. Case studies and real-world examples are
incorporated to illustrate the practical implementation of green construction
principles.
This book, intended for students,
architects, engineers, and decision-makers, functions as both an educational
resource and a reference for implementing sustainable design and construction
techniques that yield enduring environmental, social, and economic advantages.
