Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences

Environmental Sciences is a multidisciplinary science guides in the way we should live in

earth and helps to breathe the true essence of nature. It helps individuals to develop a better

understanding of our living physical environment and how to resolve challenging environmental

issues affecting nature. University Grants Commission (UGC) has made it mandatory for all the

universities to introduce a course in environmental studies and teach students about the eco-

system, pollution and problems concerned with the environment, in order to create awareness

among today’s generation on pressing environmental problems. All Universities are offering a

common Undergraduate course on Environmental Studies for all the degree programmes under

various disciplines viz., Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Sericulture, Food Nutrition and

Dietetics, Agricultural Engineering and all other allied disciplines. This text book covers all

important aspects of environmental sciences viz., Scope and Importance, Ecology, Ecosystem,

Biodiversity and its conservation, Pollution problems, Social issues in environment, its effects,
